二级研究员,博士生导师,中华人民共和国濒危物种科学委员会委员。长期从事青藏高原鱼类学研究,坚持生物进化与地球演化同步的观点,尤其注意从宏观生物学的角度来揭示青藏高原及全球变化对我国淡水鱼类区域性分化的影响。揭示了生物入侵对我国淡水鱼类分布格局的影响以及较高的繁殖力和较长的寿命是淡水鱼类成功入侵的重要机制;阐明了第四纪气候波动在塑造青藏高原物种的系统地理格局和种群历史过程中的重要作用,明确了鱼类海拔最高的冰期避难所-色林错;论证了青藏高原鱼类耳石轮纹的周期性,首次构建了长达40余年的高原鱼类生长指数年表,并量化了高原鱼类繁殖物候从20世纪70年代到2000年代的变化、以及气候变化对河流与湖泊鱼类的不同影响,为开展和揭示全球变化对青藏高原的影响、以及鱼类等水生生物如何响应气候变化提供了直接的证据和新的研究途径。已发表论文近200篇。
